South Indian Wedding Kalyana Saapadu at Lansdowne Resort

A Traditional Banana Leaf Thali Experience

At Rupa Vira’s Catering Services, we had the honor of catering a beautiful three-day South Indian wedding celebration at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia.

For the wedding lunch, the family chose a traditional Kalyana Saapadu–style meal, served in a steel thali lined with banana leaf. This presentation blends the authenticity of a South Indian wedding feast with the elegance required for modern wedding venues.

The result was a vibrant and memorable dining experience that felt just like a traditional wedding celebration in South India.

What is a Kalyana Saapadu Wedding Meal?

A Kalyana Saapadu is a festive South Indian wedding feast traditionally served on a banana leaf. Guests enjoy a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, carefully arranged and served in a specific order to balance flavors, textures, and aromas.

For this wedding at Lansdowne Resort, we recreated that tradition by placing fresh banana leaves inside polished steel thalis, allowing guests to enjoy the authenticity of banana leaf dining while maintaining a refined presentation suitable for the venue.

This style of service creates a warm, communal dining experience, where guests are served multiple dishes and encouraged to savor the flavors of each course.
